Public Hearings on Expanding Bomber Range Sep. 14-20

September 8, 2010

The South Dakota Peace and Justice Center alerts us to an important public hearing in Rapid City on Tuesday, September 14. The Air Force has announced plans to quadruple the airspace for its Powder River Training Complex. This complex hosts exercises for B-1 bombers from Ellsworth AFB and B-52s from Minot AFB.

The Air Force will hold 18 meetings to get public comment in South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. The South Dakota hearings will take place in the following locations (5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at all locations; click links for maps):

Some civilian pilots are worried about additional air traffic, and some ranchers are worried low flyovers by the bombers will spook cattle and sheep.

Written comments may be sent to Linda Devine, HQ ACC/A7PS, 129 Andrews St. Suite 337, Langley AFB, VA 23665-2769. Click here for a formal written comment form. Deadline for written submissions is Nov. 13.
